Foreground welcomes new director

After almost five years with our company, we are proud to announce Daniel Coomber has been appointed to the role of director at Foreground. He assumes the role after a four-month associate directorship, recognised for his significant contributions to the practice since joining the team in 2018.

With 20 years’ experience designing for education and residential projects, Daniel has built a particularly strong reputation delivering for government schools, growing the education sector portfolio to become one of Foreground’s largest. Other contributions include the culturally sensitive Reservoir 24-hour Police Station, and the Benalla Police Station project, currently in development.

The promotion was formally announced at an all-staff morning tea last Thursday, and resoundingly well received by the team. Daniel is well-regarded within the office for his composed and generous approach, having naturally assumed a mentoring role with younger staff and calmly overseeing a raft of complex projects.

Co-director, Riordan Gough, reflected on the new director’s strengths on Thursday:

“With the addition of Daniel to our team we were able to capitalise on multiple education opportunities, including the Permanent Modular School Building program and various projects for emergency works and disability access upgrades.

“Dan, you are generous with your time, which I know is in increasingly short supply. I’ve only ever heard good reports from your colleagues, consultants, and clients.”

Managing Director, Greg Anson, noted Daniel’s promotion was perfectly timed as the company prepares to mark 50 years of operations in 2023.

“As our practice celebrates its half century milestone, we continue to build our strength in leadership. Daniel Coomber is an exceptional addition to the capability of the practice, adding design, technical, and management excellence,” Anson says.

Dan is equally excited to take on the directorship, seeing plenty of opportunities to grow design capability in response to the needs of both people and planet.

“This is a complex and disruptive time for infrastructure planning, but one of Foreground’s strengths is understanding community need and designing innovative solutions in the face of limitations. It’s going to be an exciting challenge,” Daniel says.

We congratulate Dan and can’t wait to see what he will achieve next.
