Lord Mayor launches our new brand and studio!

After almost 50 years in practice, we revealed our new name, a bright new identity and new premises, celebrating the opening of our Carlton office on Friday, as we relaunched as Foreground Architecture.

Following a courageous and moving Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri elder, Uncle Tony Garvey, Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Sally Capp, addressed the 140-strong crowd, also welcoming the team to the city, and applauding the company’s bravery to make such bold moves after a half century in practice – and despite the constraints of the pandemic.

Directors Greg Anson and Riordan Gough each thanked the team for their hard work during extended lockdowns, reflecting on the company’s strong history, and relaying the small but important role the team is playing as part of the reactivation of Melbourne, post-pandemic.

We also publicly announced the appointment of several new Associate Directors and Associates on Friday – all promoted from within the practice.

Senior Architects Daniel Coomber and James Kazalac have assumed Associate Director roles, having led education and industry sector projects over several years. Also promoted to Associate Director was Jessica Hyde, who has managed the studio, practice communications and tenders since 2016, and after more than 14 years’ service to the team. The trio joins Hao Lee as Associate Directors. Riordan also made special mention of Principal and former FMSA Director, Peter Sandow, who has dedicated more than four decades to the service of architecture.

Other announcements on Friday included the promotion of Senior Architects Anna Morawiec and Brendan Pelham to Associate positions. We also congratulate Nawar Kunda and David Fisher on their appointments to Documentation Leads.

Excited to get the chance to meet and celebrate with many of our clients, suppliers and industry colleagues at Friday’s event, we shared refreshments, as well as some delicious food crafted by the talented Indigenous caterers, Mabu Mabu.

We extend our thanks to branding and website designers, Design Democracy, for our bright new look, to John Fry from Sixheads for our new site’s development, and to Jo McErvale from Word to the Wise for her support with values-led, strategic communications and PR throughout the rebrand process. We also thank event organisers AB Event Concepts for their work in coordinating our launch event.
